(May 5) Ex-Delaware Bishop Named As Catholic Official Who Covered Up Clergy Sex Abuse In Baltimore 

Former Catholic Diocese of Wilmington Bishop W. Francis Malooly was one of several past high-ranking Archdiocese of Baltimore officials identified as those who helped cover up sexual abuse, according to a Baltimore Sun exclusive article published online late Thursday.

Malooly — along with the Most Revs. Richard “Rick” Woy, G. Michael Schleupner, J. Bruce Jarboe and George B. Moeller — helped abusive priests get away with their crimes, either concealing the extent of a priest’s misdeeds or striking deals with prosecutors to avoid a criminal charge, according to the Sun's article.

(May 5) Olive Branch, MS Educator Charged With Child Molestation, Sexual Abuse, Unnatural Intercourse | Memphis TN

A Mississippi educator was arrested and charged Thursday with two counts of molestation – touching a child for lustful purposes, two counts of sexual battery and one count of unnatural intercourse.

Daniel Paul Harris, 44, of Olive Branch was given a bond of $950,000 on the charges, according to DeSoto County Jail records.

The charges involving children were added late Thursday night. Initially it was unclear whether the charges involved a minor.

Harris and his wife founded the Kaimen Center, a center that provides activities and experiences for children and adults of varying disabilities. Harris is the CEO, according to the center’s website.

(May 1) Former IFB Missionary Convicted of Sexually Abusing 4-Year-Old Who Got STD 

A former Baptist missionary has been found guilty of sexually abusing a 4-year-old family member, who tested positive for gonorrhea last April.

On Friday, a court in Webster County, Iowa, found 30-year-old Jordan Webb guilty of second-degree sexual abuse with persons under the age of 12, a Class B felony, according to the Messenger News. The court also convicted Webb of incest, a felony, and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

The jury deliberated about two hours before delivering their verdict, the Des Moines Register reported. Webb faces up to 32 years in prison at his sentencing on June 5.

(May 1) Man To Stand Trial In Attempted Rape Of Elderly Woman In Church | San Diego, CA

A man accused of sexually assaulting a 78-year-old woman at a Mira Mesa church was ordered to stand trial on charges of assault with intent to commit rape and dissuading a witness.

Hugo Jonathan Espinoza-Martinez, 27, is accused of assaulting the woman on Nov. 25, 2022, at Summit Point Church on Rickert Road.

The alleged victim, identified in court only as Jane Doe, testified during a preliminary hearing Monday that she was alone at the church on the morning of Nov. 25, where she regularly volunteered.

As she was preparing to leave for the day, she testified that a man knocked at the door, asking to use the restroom.

(April 29) Ventura Councilman Knew Of His Son's Abuse Of Teen Girl In Church Group | Ventura, CA

Jim Duran was elected to the Ventura City Council last year by a comfortable margin, unseating the incumbent and winning 42% of the vote in a four-way race to represent District 6.

Duran is the lead pastor at The River Community Church in Ventura. During his campaign for City Council, his son, James Duran II, was in Ventura County Jail, serving four months for a felony sex crime he committed against a girl while he was a youth group leader at the church.
