 (February 15) Church Employee Stole Nearly $600K For Gambling, Florida Vacations, Feds Say | Indianapolis, INAn Indiana woman has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after stealing nearly $600,000 from the church where she worked. 

According to court documents from 2008 to 2021, Marie Carson illegally transferred approximately $573,836.59 from business accounts of a Catholic church and related school in Indianapolis to her own personal bank accounts.

(February 15) Man Has Heart Attack After Elmhurst Church Incident | Elmhurst, IL

A suspect threatened to fight parishioners and stole money from a donation box, public records show.

A Melrose Park man threatened to fight parishioners earlier this month at an Elmhurst church, authorities said. One of the victims later told an officer he suffered a heart attack after the incident, police said. 

Steven Caruso, 67, was arrested on charges of felony theft from a place of worship and disorderly conduct.

(February 15) MPD: Church Burglar Busted After Bishop Finds Stolen Items Nearby | Memphis, TN

The pastor of a church in Southwest Memphis didn’t have to go very far to find over $5,000 worth of audio equipment taken from his church.

Police said Bishop Jessie Toney of Temple of Love and Truth located the stolen items in a vacant house next door and held the burglar until officers got there. Reginald Pree, 49, was arrested and is now facing two counts of burglary of a building.

(February 15) Police Recover 2,000-Pound Church Bell Stolen From Squirrel Hill | Pittsburgh, PA

A stolen church bell that weighs approximately 2,000 pounds has been recovered by Pittsburgh police.

Early Wednesday morning, police located the 115-year-old bell along Parkwood Road in the city's St. Clair neighborhood. "Supposedly, they tried to take it to a scrap yard," said Mark Pearson, church trustee. "Once they saw it on the news, they stopped and dumped it off in a secluded area."

(February 14) Golf Car Stolen From Church | West Seattle, WA

Places of worship are not exempt from theft. Sometime early morning Valentine’s Day, the storage shed at Fauntleroy Church UCC was broken into and the golf car taken. The golf car is used to help people going from the parking lot to the sanctuary, and for groundskeeping. This golf car is a 1995 Club Car – old but fulfilling the tasks asked of it.
