(February 9) Toddler, Woman Shot Inside Vehicle Near Fairfield Church | Jefferson County, AL

A woman and a toddler were shot while riding inside a vehicle in Fairfield Wednesday afternoon. Officials said the incident happened just before 4:00 p.m. near the First Baptist Church of Fairfield.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said the toddler was grazed by a bullet and suffered minor injuries. The woman also sustained a gunshot wound, but it is considered to be non-life-threatening.

(February 9) 2 Charged With Murder In 1975 Killing Of An Indiana Teenager | North Webster, IN

Laurel Jean Mitchell was found dead after she left a church camp to meet with friends and never made it. Her case had remained unsolved until DNA testing revealed a match.

On the evening of Aug. 6, 1975, Laurel Jean Mitchell left the Epworth Forest church camp in North Webster, Ind., where she worked at the snack bar, to meet friends at a nearby amusement park.

She never made it.

(February 6) Accused Church Shooter Deemed Mentally Capable | Vestavia Hills, AL

Accused church shooter Robert Findlay Smith has completed a mental evaluation, and deemed mentally capable of going to trial. Smith is charged in the shooting deaths of three people at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills 

In November, a judge ordered Smith undergo a mental evaluation.

The Vestavia Hills Police Department said a member of the church subdued Smith before police arrived, possibly preventing more shooting.

(February 3) Pittsburgh Funeral Shooting Suspects Held For Trial; Video Played In Court | Pittsburgh, PA

Two people have been ordered to stand trial in a shooting outside a church where a funeral service was being held in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood. Surveillance video of the Oct. 28 shooting outside Destiny of Faith Church was introduced at the preliminary hearing Friday for Hezekiah Nixon, 17, and Shawn Davis, 19.

The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office presented video that they say shows Nixon and Davis walking toward the church just before the shooting. Two gunmen are then seen opening fire. A split-screen view was provided that showed both gunmen firing.
