(April 19) Fire Damages Historic Church Downtown | Burlington

Work being done on a historic church building downtown accidentally started a fire in the roof of the building Tuesday afternoon, the Burlington Fire Department said.

Workers called 911 about 2:45 p.m. after seeing smoke coming from First Christian Church at 415 S. Church St., the fire department said. Firefighters arrived less than a minute later to find light smoke coming from the roof, and they also found smoke building in the attic.

(April 17) Photos: Zachary Church Roof Collapses, Cause Under Investigation | Zachary, LA

The fire department is investigating after the roof of a Zachary church collapsed on Friday, April 14.

The Zachary Fire Department said crews found “an almost total roof collapse” at Open Door Fellowship Life Center Church’s main location in the 4400 block of Avenue A in Zachary. No injuries were reported.

Officials said an investigation into the cause of the collapse is underway.

(April 16) Man, 27, Arrested After Windows Smashed At California Church | CA

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of using a baseball bat to smash stained glass windows at a Southern California church over the weekend, police said.

Rev. Paul Capetz, the senior pastor at Christ Church by the Sea in Newport Beach, said police called him before dawn Saturday to report the vandalism.

Capetz said the suspect smashed stained glass windows and doors that were donated by a church member years ago in honor of their loved ones. He estimated the damage could cost up to $100,000 to repair.
