(February 23) Wind Gusts Exceeding 60 Mph Leaves Wake Of Damage In Area Counties | East Bernstadt, KY

A severe thunderstorm that moved through the area yesterday afternoon caused property damage in several counties. The worst of the storm was about 9 miles south of Mount Vernon, on a north-east trek. The system packed nickle sized hail and gusts over 60 mph.

East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue responded to several incidents, just after around 5 p.m. Thursday in response to storms and high winds. Reports ranged from a structure fire, multiple power lines down on trees, and trees down in the roadway. There were instances of property damage in the area to houses, barns and buildings. The steeple was blown off the First Baptist Church in East Bernstadt. East Bernstadt Fire and Rescue report this church was used as a safe haven for many after the 2012 tornado. Firefighters used the Tower Truck to access the roof and used tarps and lumber to prevent further damage.

(February 21) Windows Shattered At Unitarian Church | Evanston IL

Several windows were reported shattered at a Unitarian church on Ridge Avenue. This among stories in Tuesday’s daily crime bulletin from Evanston police. 

Some five or six windows were found shattered on the north side of the Unitarian Church of Evanston, in the 1300 block of Ridge Avenue, between 2 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday.

(February 21) Atlanta Church Defaced With Vulgar Graffiti, 60-Year-Old Suspect In Custody | Atlanta, GA

A 60-year-old man was caught vandalizing and defacing Atlanta Church as he spray-painted vulgar words everywhere. The community has tried cleaning graffiti at the Providence Missionary Baptist of Atlanta.

Various cases of vandalism have been reported recently, and it has been a pressing issue as hate for the Christian community persists. The Christian community fears that if this kind of crime continues, the people in faith will be next targeted.

(February 21) Witness Describes What He Saw Before East Bay's Oldest Black Church Caught Fire | Oakland, CA

Oakland lost a piece of history Sunday night after a massive fire damaged the First African Methodist Episcopal Church. "I did see that flame and it's kind of crazy that an hour later that church is on fire," said Tony Butts who lives nearby.

Butts is recounting the moments before Oakland's First African Methodist Episcopal Church, or FAME Church caught fire.

(February 19) Flames Destroy Former Edwardsville Church | Edwardsville, PA

Flames were roaring above the steeple of the former St. Hedwig's Catholic Church on Zerby Avenue in Edwardsville after a fire broke out early Sunday morning.

"This morning, I was sleeping, and then all I saw was flashing lights," Jessica McKinney said.  

McKinney woke up to find firefighters putting out flames that consumed the vacant church near her home and tells Newswatch 16 she watched dozens of fire departments respond to the blaze from her bedroom window.
